FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Junior right-handed pitcher James Teague became the sixth and final Arkansas player drafted this year when he was selected in the 37th round, No. 1,111 overall, by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft Saturday afternoon.

Teague follows Zach Jackson, Clark Eagan, Dominic Taccolini, Michael Bernal and Doug Willey as the newest Razorbacks drafted to the MLB over the last two days and fourth taken on day three alone. Teague is also the fourth pitcher from Arkansas taken in this year’s draft.

From Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Teague has been one of Arkansas’ go-to pitchers over the last three seasons. Last year, in the Razorbacks’ run to Omaha, Teague won six games in 23 appearances and did not allow an earned run in five of his final seven appearances.

Teague earned the victory in Arkansas’ NCAA Regional Championship over St. John’s last season, throwing 1 2/3 innings of relief and not allowing a hit. He also worked in both of the team’s NCAA Super Regional wins over Missouri State, including 4 innings without allowing a run in the clinching victory.

This season, Teague won three games out of the bullpen, while striking out 30 batters and only walking seven. He only gave up one run in his first four appearances and struck out a season-high four against Houston in the Shriner’s College Classic.

Over his three-year Razorback career, Teague has compiled a 4.58 ERA to go along with 10 wins and 90 strikeouts over 106 innings. He’s held opponents to a .266 batting average over the 49 games he’s pitched in since 2014.

The signing deadline for underclassmen and high school seniors selected in the 2016 First Year Player draft is July 15.
