Press release from Vera Nelson, Talihina Chamber of Commerce

BACK ROADS HISTORY TOURS of Talihina will be conducting two guided tours on April 26th and 27th.

If you love history and would like to go on either or both tours contact the chamber of commerce at 918-567-3434 for details.

The Friday Tour will be in the Southeastern area of Latimer County. Saturday's tour will be in Northeastern Pushmataha and Southern Latimer Counties.

Both tours begin at the Information center in Talihina. Each tour last about 6 hours and include a picnic lunch. We leave at 9:00 am and try to return by 3:00.

Friday night we are having a dinner and program for those who are registered for the tours and all business owners and managers of businesses in and around Talihina.

There will be story telling about the past, live music, and catfish dinner with cole slaw, beans, fries and dessert. this will be held at the Choctaw Community Center in Talihina and the cost will be $15.00 per person. Registeration for the dinner closes Wednesday.

Next on our Tour agenda on the 18th of May we will have a Butterfield Stage Line Tour from Red Oak to Skullyville.

It also will begin at the Talihina Visitor’s Center located at 201 First Street, Talihina. Please register at least one week in advance. It too will include a picnic lunch.

The advantage of our tours is we have guides who have prepared well and searched out all the historical information of each tour. Every tour includes cemeteries, abandoned schools, old communities and towns, and any locations on the historical registry. We travel the back roads as much as possible.

Back Roads Tours is an arm of the Talihina chamber of Commerce and all money raised is dedicated for the expansion of tourism in our area. For information call 918-567-3434
