I hope you all had a wonderful Easter filled with love, family and chocolate bunnies! We spent the day at the farm with my parents, my sister and her family.

The weather ended up being perfect for the annual Easter egg hunt. Although the kids are older, they must hunt eggs....that’s the rule! Since Easter came so late it feels like everything is happening at warp speed—the end of school is near (except for all those massive projects that I have due in the next three weeks), summer vacation planning is in full swing, and I’m still trying to get caught up on what should have been done in the fall to my flower beds! Ashton and I are also planning another family reunion for my mom’s side of the family. We’ve chosen to do it in Hot Springs this time as it offers a lot of things to do, but still kind of small, and a lot of my family lives within a couple of hours.

Although I have all these things going on , I still like my house to look great. Sometimes it only looks great on the weekends, but hey whatever at this point, right?! If any of you have a pet in the home that makes the “looking great” thing about 10x harder. It feels like as soon as either I get something cleaned up the cat coughs up a fur ball or the dog gets sick from running around like a banshee outside. One of the best decisions I ever made was getting rid of all the carpet in my house. I don’t know about your dog, but my dog is shedding enough to make 40 other dogs. Have you ever noticed that the fur seems to accumulate in the corners and make giant fur balls (like giant fur balls that look like small kittens)?

I have and it’s pretty gross. Here are the best ways I’ve found to keep the pet hair as much under control as you can when you have a four-legged friend or two living inside:

• Brushing your pet (outdoors, Donnie, please) and bathing them regularly helps keep them from shedding as much.
• Vacuuming at least a couple of times a week. (Yeah, that doesn’t always happen especially right now, but it’s great in theory, right?) Here’s what I do if my world is going perfect that week. Mid-week I vacuum with the cordless vacuum to hit the middle and grab the hair in a hurry and on the weekends I use the good vacuum with the hose and vacuum really well in the corners, under the cabinets, and all those places the fur tends to gather. I also vacuum all the furniture.
• Next, I wash all of the pet bedding once a week. I do this for two reasons: 1) the hair and 2) well, it stinks.
• Last, but maybe just as important as vacuuming is mopping. I have found that vacuuming alone does not do as good a job as combining the two.

I know, this wasn’t the most glamorous of topics, but it’s something all pet owners have to deal with!
