Happy New Year! I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas! Our Christmas holiday has been very relaxing...well, except for Grayson’s surgery the day after Christmas, but other than that we’ve been able to step away from the busyness of life and recharge for the coming new year.

I will be honest with you (not that I want time to pass by quickly), although 2017 was filled with many great milestones, I won’t be too sad to see it go. We have had some pretty amazing highs, but there have also been some pretty low lows this past year and by the grace of God, we’ve made it through them. I know in the end those lows make us stronger, but dang they sure are hard when we are going through them.

Before I get on with New Year festivities and resolutions, I want to go back to Christmas. As I mentioned in a previous column, our Christmas gift giving was a bit lean this year and Donnie and the girls and I all agreed to only do gifts that were handmade or charitable. Let me tell you that was so much harder than buying gifts, but what they came up with was more meaningful than anything that could ever be bought. Grayson made me a sugar scrub so I could relax now that I am done with school and Ashton made me some awesome plates that she wrote the prayer before meals on. I had seen some napkins in a catalog that were similar that I just fell in love with, but they were $60.

I wrote the girls and Donnie each personal cards about their special traits and how proud I was of them. Isn’t if funny that often times we fail to tell the people closest to us how special they are?

Ok, now that I have taken up almost all of my allotted space, I’ll get on with the New Year. This year will be low key for us as Grayson is still recovering and again we’re going lean. Regardless, I still like to add a little New Year pizazz to our home by adding golds and silvers. I pile party blowers and streamers in crystal bowls and add gold streamers to the stair garland. Anything glitzy and glamorous looking works for New Year’s decorations just use your imagination.

I’m not sure if you guys have seen the commercial about keeping it real. It is some phone advertisement and it is basically telling people to post their real life not just the picturesque moments, so I thought I would start the New Year with my own “keeping it real” photos.

This is a Christmas morning photo that we took and just a few seconds later the camera captured a real-life moment of the cat jumping up on the table and spilling everything along the way.

Enjoy and Happy New Year!
