Donnie has a cycling race in Little Rock and Ashton and Amy are going to the football game, sooo....that leaves me to stay home all weekend and get a hard start on Halloween decorating and, of course, getting caught up on cleaning since we’ve been gone so much for football games. Speaking of football games, that OU – Army games last weekend was one of the best football games I have ever been to. From pregame to the very last second it was fantastic.

I know people say, “Oh, OU barely beat Army.” Yes, that is true, but you truly had to be there. The magnetic energy had nothing to do with winning or losing. The patriotism and excitement were like nothing I have ever experienced. Sometimes the fans can get a little embarrassing when it comes to the opposing team, not this game. All fans were respectful and cheered for the Army team. We even got to see a soldier surprise her family after being deployed in Afghanistan. It was truly a magical night.

Now, let’s get spooky! Well, my idea of spooky is more cute than scary. I love all the fun Jack-O-Lanterns and the vintage-looking Halloween décor. One of the best places to start any seasonal decorating is the mantel, but if you are like me, you have a TV above your mantel. I have a love-hate relationship with that. I like the TV being out of the way, but I really miss having a mantel to decorate as a focal point. So, I do the next best thing and decorate the sofa table.

First things first, start with a blank canvas by clearing the space. Start with a focal point, if decorating the mantel, a mirror or shutter or something like it work great. For a sofa table leaning a mirror against the couch doesn’t really work out well, especially the first time the dog jumps onto the couch. The main thing is add items with varying height, textures and shapes. Speaking of different textures, Target has the cutest fabric pumpkins in their $1 section.

Items that give great height are candlesticks, branches, vases, and a tall Halloween-themed piece like a skeleton. Now add your pumpkins and other things for varying textures. Finish off your table or mantel with a black crow for a little fun surprise.

Now that you have a main focal point, just work out from there by placing a little pumpkin here and there or any other kind of fun Halloween/fall item. Have fun with it and get spooky!
