News Release

Poteau, Oklahoma - The Poteau bond election vote on Tuesday failed to gain the required 60% to pass.

Voters had to choose whether or not to increase property taxes by 5.5% in order to build a 7th/8th grade center and a 2 story classroom center at the high school. “Of course it is a disappointment”, remarked Don Sjoberg, Superintendent, “but there is a positive take-away from these results.

It was close enough for us to know that there is a solid base of school supporters in the Poteau community who are willing to make a sacrifice on behalf of students”.

“We just didn’t have enough to meet the supermajority threshold of 60%”.
