Press release

Brittany Wagner, academic counselor for Netflix Original Documentary Series Last Chance U, will be on the Carl Albert State College campus in Poteau on Wednesday, November 29, 2017.

Wagner is a nationally respected athletic academic counselor and life coach through her company, 10 Thousand Pencils. During her visit to CASC, she will speak at the Hamilton Auditorium at 11 a.m. Wagner will also meet with the CASC athletes, with the Native American Serving Nontribal Institutional Grant (NASNTI) staff, and CASC President Jay Falkner.

Last Chance U is a documentary series produced by Netflix. The series focuses on the football program at East Mississippi Community College. The title of the series refers to the fact that many of the players recruited to play at EMCC have been removed from Division I rosters due to academic or disciplinary issues, and playing at the JUCO level is their "last chance" to prove themselves and return to Division I.

Wagner is visiting CASC at the invitation of CASC NASNTI Project Coordinator Micky Solomon. “We are excited to have Brittany Wagner at CASC. She has a great story and message, and we look forward to her being here. The 11 a.m. event at CASC is open to students, athletes, coaches, and any other community members interested in attending. Admission is free, so we hope area schools will take advantage of the opportunity to bring groups to attend Wagner’s program.” Solomon continued, “November is Native America Heritage Month and on behalf of the NASNTI staff, we are pleased to bring Brittany Wagner to the area. We feel her experiences can vastly help us expand our NASNTI coaching program.”

Wagner earned her undergraduate degree in sport communication from Mississippi State University, followed by her master’s degree in sport administration. Wagner is a native of Clinton, Mississippi, and a single-mom to one daughter, Kennedy.

CASC Mission Statement: To provide an affordable, accessible, and exceptional education that fosters student success.
