CASC Hosts Annual Poetry Contest Featured

The Carl Albert State College Fine Arts and Communication Division is hosting its annual Poetry Contest in celebration of National Poetry Month. All CASC students who are interested in creative writing, poetry, and fine arts are encouraged to submit an original piece. The contest winner will be announced in the Joe E. White Library at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10.


Casey Cowan, local writer and award winning-poet and CASC graduate is set to announce the winner of the contest and read select pieces of her original poetry at the event. Casey is from Heavener, Okla. and has been writing poetry, prose, and short stories since the age of six. She never goes a day without endless amounts of Mountain Dew, lipstick, and a good playlist.

All contestants must be enrolled as a CASC student for the 2019 spring semester. The rules for the contest are as follows:


• All contestants must be enrolled as a CASC student for the spring 2019 semester.
• Poets are limited to two original entries, and each poem must be no longer than one 8.5” x 11” page. Plagiarism is grounds for disqualification.
• Poems that have already been published will not be accepted in this contest.
• Each entry should be typed in 12 pt. Times New Roman.
• Please remember to place your name on the page with the poem.
• Each entry should have the bottom of this form stapled to it.
• Entries may be submitted in person to the Fine Arts and Communications Division, Ollie Center 3rdfloor, or mailed to Carl Albert State College, ATTN: Susan Hill, 1507 S. Be sure to include all entry form information in the text of the email and insert the poem as a Word document or PDF attachment.
• All entries must be received by April 1, 2019. Entries may be published with permission in The Runestone, a publication featuring CASC students’ work.


Winners will be announced at 1:00 on Wednesday, April 10,in the CASC Joe E. White Library in conjunction with National Library Week. First, second, and third place winners will respectively receive a $50, $25, and $10 gift card to the CASC bookstore. Students may find official entry forms in the CASC library.
