Press release

On Friday, October 5, 2018, CASC’s Title III Project Director, Micky Solomon, facilitated a presentation on “Coaching for Completion” at the Oklahoma Association of Community Colleges (OACC) Annual Conference at Oklahoma City Community College.

Solomon’s presentation highlighted the importance of coaching students to success, and how coaching them to believe in themselves and their abilities will ultimately result in empowered students.

Her presentation touched on the ‘why,’ the ‘how,’ and the ‘impact,’ of CASC’s Title III Part A, NASNTI Coaching Program.

“It was an honor to represent Carl Albert State College's NASNTI program,” Solomon said, “and share how our coaching program has impacted our students and the institution.

Success coaching is delivered by Brad Davis, Technology Specialist, Regan Huff, Coaching Coordinator, and myself — but it takes collaboration with CASC's faculty to make it flourish. This collaboration is direct effect of President Falkner and Dr. Willis empowering their employees.”

“Our program truly believes in the "why" of success coaching which is to empower students,” she continued. “By empowering our students, we are helping them build a strong foundation to overcome obstacles in academics and other areas that impact their higher educational journey. A stronger community, institution, and student success will be the result of our work through this program.”

“My hope is that everyone sees the critical need to empower their students to find their own answers by developing their critical thinking skills, growth mindset, and self-appraisal skills,” she concluded.

President Jay Falkner echoed Solomon’s comments and affirmed the importance of ‘walking alongside’ our students through coaching practices to help them achieve their educational goals and ultimately find success in their future endeavors.

“I am thrilled to collaborate and work with individuals like Micky,” said President Falkner. “Her passion for her students is evident in every conversation you have with her.

She is a valued asset of our institution and I could not be more excited for her to share her passion and success with our peers at the OACC conference.”
