Press release

Students in Carl Albert State College Instructor Kevin Womack’s American History and Government classes are earning bonus points as volunteers at the LeFlore County Historical Society.

Historical Society Director Bonnie Prigmore shared that Womack volunteered his students, and the students’ assistance is working out great. “They are doing everything from assembling bookcases to making labels and even translating some writings to English,” stated Prigmore. She continued, “Upstairs at the LeFlore County Museum at Hotel Lowrey we have a room that was used by CASC students back in the 70s and there are some writings still remaining on the wall. Ahmed Abuhalimeh is translating the writings to English for me, and he explained they were probably written by someone from Jordan.”

Womack stated at least 25 students have volunteered two hours each, so CASC has already provided 50 hours of volunteer time. He explained he feels this is a great learning opportunity for his students, and also a help to the local Historical Society.

CASC Mission Statement: To provide an affordable, accessible, and exceptional education that fosters student success.
