The city of Poteau and Wolf Ridge Country Club has an exciting opportunity for kids in the community.

With the agreement between the city and Wolf Ridge, kids can now enjoy a day of golf, without being charged an arm and leg.

With the pool closed, golf became an option for children to partake in this summer,  but the golf program will last longer than just the summer.

According to Wolf Ridge Board member, Steve Scowden, “with this agreement with players can play a round of golf for $2.00 or they can enjoy a season pass for $25.00 per year.” Any kid between the ages of 5 - 18 can golf anytime the course is open. Children 14 and under must be accompanied by adult. The adult can take play a round of golf with the child for ½ the green fees price and get a free golf cart. Children 14 and over can play without an adult and any license driver can use a golf cart.

According to Tami Matos and Steve Scowden, 62 kids have taken advantage of the opportunity to play golf since its inception in June. Eight kids have bought season passes and a total of 122 rounds of golf have been played with repeat players.

“Each time a kid plays, they are recorded, and the $2 is collected and given to the city on a regular basis,” said Matos, “Wolf Ridge has been keeping precise records of every player.”

If a child doesn’t know how to play golf, Wolf Ridge offers golfing clinics each month, to teach the basic skills. According to Scowden, 22 kids attended the last golf clinic.

Any child wishing to purchase a season pass, forms are available at Poteau City Hall located at 111 Peters Street or at Wolf Ridge Country Club.

The following information was provided by Tami Matos
The PARC costs the city $300,000 (net) per year. If even 3,000 kids were in it, that costs $100 per kid. Even being very generous that 6,000 kids use the PARC, that would be a cost of $50 per player.
As of date, golf has had 62 players. Therefore, $2,500 divided by 62 is $40 per player. So far golf is comparable, even better, to the cost per kids using PARC.
