On November 2nd in Pueblo, Colorado, Grady Jackson of Howe, Oklahoma, was presented a national award by members of the American Chuckwagon Association at their annual meeting.

He along with one other young man was selected for the “Young Coosie” award.

This award is given to a “youngster who has within his first years of participation in chuck wagon related events, demonstrated a significant knowledge of chuckwagons and an admirable ability and dedication to chuck wagon cooking.”

Grady competed in three youth chuckwagon cooking competitions this past year, winning two of them. He took first place in Guthrie, Oklahoma at the Lazy E arena in March and also first place at Cheyenne Frontier Days in Wyoming with his famous cobblers.

He along with his dad were also part of a four man crew who brought home the chuckwagon cooking championship at Cheyenne.

This resulted in Grady bringing home two belt buckles for back to back wins.

Chuckwagon cooking is done completely from scratch and cooked over an open fire or with coals inside cast iron Dutch ovens.

Grady has shown incredible skill and understanding of this form of cooking as well as of our western heritage.

He will continue to advance his skills and compete into the future.

His dad, Justin Jackson, owns the local Horse Pen Ranch chuckwagon out of Howe, OK.
