KTC’s Paramedic Students Bring Home Gold Featured

The Kiamichi Technology Center (KTC) Paramedic Class of 2018 recently competed in the International HOSA competition in Dallas, TX. Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) is an organization for health students that reinforces leadership skills, teamwork, and enables students to stay abreast to the ever changing world of medicine. HOSA has more than 200,000 members in approximately 4,100 chartered chapters in 53 state associations, including American Samoa, Canada, Germany, Guam, Italy, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.

 

Oklahoma has a membership of over 6,000, including middle school, secondary, postsecondary, collegiate students; professional members; and alumni members.

 

The mission of HOSA is to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill, and leadership development of all health science education students, therefore, helping the student meet the needs of the health care community.


The KTC Emergency Medical Technician teams places 1st & 2nd. The team of Paul Lynn and Nathan Summerlin brought home the gold medals, while StephenTaylor and Bobby Jenkins brought home the silver medals. The Public Health Team placed first for a dramatic skit on dating violence. Kalen Melton also placed in the top ten in Pathophysiology.

 

Kiamichi Technology Centers has been an integral part of the communities in southeastern Oklahoma since 1968, serving ten full counties and parts of three other counties. KTC is part of the Oklahoma CareerTech system and is one of 29 districts within the state. KTC has more than 30 career programs, and offers a wide variety of evening and weekend short-term courses as well as certifications in many diverse career fields. KTC serves nearly 23,000 individuals each year, including many area companies who receive training through the Business and Industry Services Division that works with over 400 businesses each year.
