The Volunteer Fire Department and Monroe School hosted the bean dinner and elimination drawing Friday evening as a prelude to Saturday’s Old Timer’s Day Celebration. Two hundred tickets were sold for the dinner and then a “draw down” for the grand prize took place.

The first ticket drawn was Elaine Jensen. She won an original painting by Ruth Gardenhire of the old Wilson family barn.

She worked out a deal with Mr. John Wilson whose family has owned the property where the barn sits for many years. She quickly sold him the painting and donated her winnings to the school.

Several door prizes were given away and then the final 2 names drawn were the big winners of the night. Pat Dill walked away with the quilt hand quilted by Monroe Quilters Nona Mode, Linda Benefield, Anna Weaver, Jeanette Larosa and Blevlyn Benefield. Hallie Hart won an original painting by Deanna Burt Martin of the old school building the way it looked in 1950.

Prizes were donated by several people with ties to the Monroe community. Those who donated include: Deanna Martin, Ruth Gardenhire, Jeff Jensen, Paul LaRosa, Ronnie & Blevlyn Benefield, Shanna Hemphill Hall, Angie Bowles Ramsey, Melissa Cravey Dawes, Sonya Thompson, Christy Bowles, Mark It Place, Jack’s Jewelers, DelDeana Waymire, Kirsten Cardenas, Monroe Memories, Anna Weaver, Jeanette LaRose, Linda Benefield, Nona Mode and Blevlyn Benefield.
