Former Poteau Basketball player now coach for Luther gave his team a pretty good season for the 2017- 2018 basketball season.

Matt Jones, Poteau High graduate and the son of Michael and Sherrie Jones went on to play basketball at Carl Albert State College and the University of Central Oklahoma.

This is Jones’s second year as the boys’ head basketball coach at Luther High School.

He led the Luther Lions to win Runner-Up at the Little Axe tournament (Lost to Wewoka), Runner-Up at the Stroud Tournament (lost to 4A team - Manford), District Champions (held in Luther), Regional Champions (held at Rejoice Christian in Owasso), Area Champions (held at Catoosa High School), and finally to the semifinals of the State Tournament! This is the first time Luther has made it to the State Tournament in 20 years.

Luther won against Ketchum in Yukon on Thursday but lost their bid for the state championship game with a loss on Friday (March 9, 2018) against Wright City 48-41.

Matt is married to a Heavener High School graduate Meisha, the daughter of Marvin and Kelly Meredith.
