Press Release

The Poteau Valley Humane Society is excited to announce that they have received a grant from the Watershed Animal Fund founded by Sue Ann Arnall.

This generous grant has made it possible for PVHS to expand their spay/neuter program for all of LeFlore County.

Pet “over-population” encompasses two primary factors: 1) Allowing cats and dogs to reproduce with little chance to find homes for the offspring, and 2) Pets being relinquished by owners who can no longer keep their animals, or who no longer want them.

Every year, millions of cats and dogs are euthanized in our nation’s animal shelters because there are more pets than there are responsible homes for them.

Until this issue is resolved, the Poteau Valley Humane Society believes that all cats and dogs adopted from public or private animal care and control facilities should be spayed or neutered.

You can help fight the pet over-population problem by having your animals spayed or neutered.

The following qualifications must be met to receive financial assistance: Cost to applicant would be $10 per animal with a limit of 4 per family, income level for one person household cannot be greater than $36,180, two or more person household $48,720 (verification will be required).

For additional information on this program, you may contact Erin at (918)413-3821 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Applications are available to be picked up from the Poteau Valley Humane Society, 326 Industrial Blvd., Poteau, OK.
