Altus Oklahoma boy drowned at Tom Steed Reservoir in Kiowa County Featured

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol, report that a 4-year-old Altus, Oklahoma boy drowned at the Tom Steed Reservoir in Kiowa County at the swimming area.

 

According to the report, the drowning occurred on July 16, 2017 at approximately 6:51pm when the boy was in the swimming area at Tom Steed, floating on a raft that was in the shape of a duck in the shallow water of the swimming area.


The winds were blowing southeast at approximately 10 to 15 miles per hour. The wind caught onto the raft and took the raft and the juvenile out past the swimming area where the juvenile had jumped off of the raft and submerged under water and never resurfaced.


Tools such as side scan sonar were used to find the juvenile and a drag tool was used to recover of the juvenile.

 

The accident was investigated by OHP, Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office, State Park Rangers, Mountain Park Fire Department, Kiowa County EMS, and Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office.
