Drowning at the Red River, South of Idabel Featured

At approximately 5:48pm on June 17, 2017, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol were dispatched to the scene of a drowning that occurred at the Red River, approximately 30 miles South of Idabel in McCurtain County.

According to the report, a 10-year-old girl was wading out in rapids when she slipped and went under the water and never resurfaced.

The body of the little girl was recovered approximately 70 yards from where she went under at 9pm that evening by using dragging operations in 6 feet of water approximately 30 yards from the Oklahoma shore.

The accident was investigated by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Marine Enforcement Division, Hayworth Fire Department, Garvin Fire Department, Broken Bow Fire department, Idabel Fire Department, Tom Fire Department, McCurtain County Sheriff’s Office, Little River Sheriff’s Office, and Wright City Police Department.
