Press release

Student Support Services (SSS) at Carl Albert State College welcomed Bill Meeker from the Wal-Mart Home Office to the CASC campus on September 8, 2017. Later in the month, the SSS students traveled to the Wal-Mart Home Office in Bentonville, Arkansas.

Meeker, a Director with Wal-Mart, was the SSS guest as part of their focus on Career Exploration. While at Carl Albert, Mr. Meeker spoke to the SSS Freshman Success Class regarding leadership and how to go beyond a job to building a career. SSS Coordinator Kim Hughes stated, “Mr. Meeker’s presentation included great insight for students in the qualities that build success including hard work, self-challenge, humbleness, earn the right, mentor those around you, be kind, have integrity, servant leadership, and give yourself and others a second chance.”

As part of his time at CASC, Mr. Meeker was given a campus tour, had several informal meetings with campus offices and administration, and spent time talking with CASC President Jay Falkner, faculty, and staff.
As a follow-up to Mr. Meeker’s campus visit, the Student Support Services Freshman Success Class visited the Wal-Mart Home Office in Bentonville on September 27, 2017. Hughes stated, “The students were excited to learn about different career options within Wal-Mart, including marketing, human resources, finance, aviation, real estate, and others. It was an enlightening trip that highlighted the connection between education and careers.” While in Bentonville, the students also visited the 5 & 10 Museum, and the downtown Bentonville Square.

Students from CASC on the visit to Bentonville included Justin Bellgard from Shady Point, Kali Burgess from Heavener, Mandy Clark from Poteau, Bethany Francis from Poteau, Sierra Howell from Howe, Vicente Jasinto from Poteau, Brandy Lambert from Gans, Selena Martinez from Greenwood, Nancy Martinez from Muldrow, Emily Mason from Roland, and Shaelyn McFarland from Wister.
