Poteau Voters to take to polls for School Bond Issue Featured

Residents of the Poteau School district will head to the polls January 8, 2019, to vote For or Against a proposition that would allow the district to provide funding for, among other things, a 7th & 8th Grade Center and a High School Classroom Building as well as furniture, fixtures and equipment.


The proposition, if passed, would allow the district to issue bonds for almost $15 million with an interest rate of not more than 10% for up to 10 years. Here is the text of the proposition:

Shall Independent School District Number 29 of LeFlore County, Oklahoma, incur an indebtedness by issuing its bonds in the sum of Fourteen Million Eight Hundred Seventy Five Thousand Dollars ($14,875,000) to be issued in one or more series to provide funds for the purpose of constructing, furnishing equipping, and/or acquiring a 7th and 8th Grade Center with Cafeteria and Safe Room, a High School Classroom Building with Safe Room, constructing, equipping, repairing and remodeling school buildings, acquiring school furniture, fixtures and equipment and acquiring and improving school sites, and levy and collect an annual tax, in addition to all other taxes, upon all the taxable property in such District sufficient to pay the interest on such bonds as it falls due and also to constitute a sinking fund for the payment of the principal thereof when due, said bonds to bear interest not to exceed the rate of ten (10%) percentum per annum, payable semi-annually and to become due serially within ten (10) years from their date?
