WILBURTON, OK – Eastern Oklahoma State College has planned a week of activities for alumni, students and the community during its annual Homecoming celebration in Wilburton. The theme of this year’s event is “Mountaineer Heroes” in recognition of all veterans, military personnel and emergency first responders who have or are making a difference in the world.

Wilburton Mayor Stephen Brinlee, a 2005 Eastern graduate, Eastern Alumni Association board member and former Outstanding Young Alumnus honoree, signed a proclamation declaring Nov. 6 through Nov. 11 as Eastern Homecoming Week.

The festivities will begin Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m. with the Community Chili Cook-Off in the Goddard Building. The general public and Mountaineer community are invited for the sampling, and individuals, businesses and organizations are invited to enter their tastiest chili recipe. The competition will honor the best recipe in three categories, as well as a “Taster’s Choice” award voted on by those in attendance. Visit eosc.edu/homecoming for complete competition rules and to download an entry form.

Eastern will honor area veterans and active service members during the annual Veterans Day Program set for Friday, Nov. 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the E.E. Tourtellotte Student Center Ballroom. Prior to the ceremony, veterans and active military personnel are invited to enjoy a free lunch between noon and 1:30 p.m. from The Coal Mine, also located in the Student Center.

Eastern will host a Homecoming bonfire on Friday, Nov. 10 at 6:00 p.m. north of the soccer field near the tennis courts. The public is invited to enjoy free hotdogs and s’mores while meeting Eastern’s current basketball coaches and players. Attendants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and take advantage of this fellowship opportunity.

Next on the agenda, the second annual Mountaineer 5K will take place Saturday, Nov. 11 at 8:00 a.m. in downtown Wilburton. Pre-registration is open now through Oct. 30 at a cost of $30 and includes a commemorative T-shirt. On-site registration is available at a cost of $35 with shirts available on a first come, first served basis. All proceeds will benefit the Eastern Alumni Scholarship fund. This year’s run is registered with the Choctaw Nation’s Promoting Active Communities Everywhere (PACE) program. PACE registrations are also due by Oct. 30. Participants will meet at the intersection of Main St. and Central Ave. This location will serve as the start and finish point of the race. Medallions will be awarded to the top three finishers in multiple age categories and the first overall male and female participant will receive a plaque.

Visit eosc.edu/homecoming for more details and to download a registration form.

Following the 5K, the Homecoming Parade will begin at 11 a.m. also in downtown Wilburton. The parade will feature floats from Eastern’s student clubs and organizations and the 2017 Homecoming Court. All area veterans, active military personnel and emergency first responders are invited to serve as grand marshals of the parade. A float will be provided for those who wish to attend. If you are interested in serving as a Grand Marshal, or if you or your group would like to enter a float in the parade, please contact Lindy Basden at 918-465-1876 for more information.

After the parade, Eastern will host the Mountaineer Tailgate at noon in the amphitheater located behind the Student Center. The community is invited to enjoy free hamburgers, performances by the Eastern Expressions, tailgate-style games and a Mountaineer Yearbook browse.

The week’s festivities will culminate Saturday afternoon in the C.C. Dunlap Fieldhouse with the women’s and men’s basketball games and Homecoming coronation. The Lady Mountaineers will face-off against the Oklahoma Angels at 2 p.m. and the Mountaineers will take on Bacone College at 5 p.m. Coronation will take place between the games at approximately 4 p.m.

Visit eosc.edu/homecoming for entry forms and additional information concerning all of Eastern’s 2017 Homecoming festivities.
