NORMAN – In his World Championships debut, University of Oklahoma junior Yul Moldauer proved he belongs among the best in the world.

In the premier international competition, Moldauer tallied an overall score of 84.998 in the all-around to finish seventh, the best finish for an American in the all-around since 2013.

“Yul did a tremendous job competing on the biggest stage of his career,” OU head coach Mark Williams said. “Finishing top 10 in the world is amazing! I’m very proud of his 6/6 performance tonight.”

Moldauer began the night on pommel horse, where he scored an even 14.000 and improved his mark on the apparatus from the qualifying round by nearly a full point.

The Arvada, Colo., native surged on his next three events, scoring 14.066 and 14.500 on rings and vault, respectively, before building momentum on the parallel bars with a mark of 14.533.

Despite a setback on the horizontal bar, Moldauer finished strong with his best event of the evening. In the final rotation, the All-American tallied a 14.566 on the floor exercise to secure his top-10 finish.

Moldauer will shift his focus to the individual event finals when he competes on the floor exercise, where the junior tallied a score of 14.700 in the qualifying round.

Former Sooner Alex Naddour will join Moldauer in the event finals when the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist competes for the world title on pommel horse.
