GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE NEWS RELEASE

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State won its first postseason game since 2007 as the Savage Storm withstood multiple rallies from Arkansas Tech en route to an 85-83 win in Friday’s opening quarterfinal game from the Bruin Fieldhouse.

The Savage Storm (15-3) started quickly and took a 23-9 lead through the opening 10 minutes of play. They maintained a double-digit advantage for most of the duration of the first half but the Wonder Boys (18-11) scored 14 of the final 21 points, highlighted by a banked in 3-pointer from GAC Freshman of the Year R.J. Glasper that cut the margin to 42-33.

Tech carried that momentum into the opening two-and-a-half minutes of the second half as its scored 10 of the first 12 points, led by consecutive 3-pointers from Alex Brown, and pulled to within one, 44-43. Southeastern answered with eight straight points of its own to build a nine-point lead. Tech drew as close as two points the rest of the contest but could never wrestle the lead away from the Savage Storm.

Markell Henderson and Kevin Buckingham led four from Southeastern in double figures. Each scored 20 points; Henderson hit 7-of-9 from the floor and Buckingham pulled down 14 rebounds. A’Torey Everett added 14 points and seven rebounds with Adam Dworsky totaled 14 points, six assists and five assists.

Brown scored a game-high 27 points and converted 5-of-10 from the 3-point arc. Glasper added 24 and six assists.

Southeastern entered the 2018 GAC Championships winless in four previous trips to Bartlesville. The Savage Storm’s last postseason win came on March 11, 2007 when they beat West Texas A&M in a semifinal contest at the Lone Star Conference Championships.

The Savage Storm will face Southern Nazarene in Saturday’s opening semifinal, set for noon.

The Crimson Storm won both regular-season contests, 72-67 in Durant and 68-54 at home.

The winner will advance to the title game of the GAC Championships for the first time in either program’s history.
