RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s first Men’s and Women’s Basketball Players of the Week for the 2021 season. Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Damion Thornton claimed the Men’s honor while the Lady Bulldogs’ Makyra Tramble garnered the Women’s award.

GAC MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Damion Thornton, Southwestern Oklahoma State, G, Jr., Edmond, Oklahoma

Thornton led the Bulldogs to season-opening wins at East Central and against preseason favorite Southeastern Oklahoma State. Against the Tigers, he scored 24 points, on 8-of-10 shooting, and grabbed 14 rebounds. He pulled down 14 rebounds against the Savage Storm and he added 18 points. SWOSU has started 2-0 for the first time since 2011-12.

GAC WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Makyra Tramble, Southwestern Oklahoma State, F, So., Shawnee, Oklahoma

Tramble averaged a double-double – 27.5 points per game and 12.0 rebounds per game in double-digit victories against East Central and defending GAC champion Southeastern Oklahoma State. After amassing 27 points against ECU, she posted career-highs of 28 points and 17 rebounds against the Savage Storm. She went 14-for-30 from the 3-point arc in the two contests.
