RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s second softball weekly awards for the 2021 season. Southern Nazarene’s Caitlyn Curlee claimed Player of the Week while Oklahoma Baptist’s Kayleigh Jones earned Pitcher of the Week.
GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Caitlyn Curlee, Southern Nazarene, 3B, Sr., Keller, Texas
Curlee helped the Crimson Storm pick up a pair of wins at the UCO/OC Festival. She collected hits in all four games to extend her early-season hitting streak to seven. She went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in an 8-0 five-inning victory against Pittsburg State. In the tournament finale against Newman, she hit a second-inning grand slam and scored twice.
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Kayleigh Jones, Oklahoma Baptist, RHP, So., Claremore, Oklahoma
Jones earned the win in all three of the Bison’s victories. She allowed one earned run and struck out 21 in 16.1 innings of work. Against Nebraska-Kearney, she entered in relief and struck out six of the seven batters she faced. She followed up with a three-hit complete game against Northeastern State. She finished by recording a two-hit shutout against Fort Hays State.
