NYC, NY – Classical music fan Actor Alec Baldwin, Host of the New York Philharmonic’s radio broadcast, is adding his voice to a campaign to help Maury H.S. Orchestra Director Ryan Edric Featherer get a life-changing device not covered by his insurance.
Ryan Edric Featherer suffers from the debilitating pain of MS. The money raised will help him afford a spinal cord stimulator that relieves the pain by 80%, allowing him to keep teaching and inspiring young classical musicians.
After the parent of one of Mr.Featherer’s former students reached out to Mr. Baldwin’s New York representative responded on Thursday stating that the actor was so moved that he “would certainly like to help to the best of his ability” and will be sharing Tweets & Instagram posts made to promote his cause.
A GoFundMe was set up to raise the $50K needed for both the surgical costs and the spinal cord stimulator device made by Medtronic. Here is the link to the GoFundMe.
So far, students, alumni & their families have raised the $8,000 which will cover the surgical costs. Now comes the uphill battle to raise the balance in order to pay for the device.
We know this device is a game-changer for people with M.S. because Mr. Featherer was part of a clinical trial by Medtronic for the spinal stimulator that proved beyond any doubt that this device gave him back his life and brought him back to the classroom with the passion he thought he would never have again.
His work and influence have resulted in the unique opportunity to have student ensembles perform in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Hawaii, Seattle, Anchorage l, Vancouver, Toronto, New York, Baltimore, Orlando, Miami, and other both in the US and Europe. Ryan guest conducted ensembles (large and small) throughout the country including those in Tennessee, Arizona, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, and Virginia.
