If my calculations are right, I figured it out 3 ways, then I have had the pleasure of writing about “Live Music” and such for FOUR(4) years. It has been my way of staying involved. What a Joy it has been, too. When I saw that my picking days were ending, I wanted to stay in touch with the music and musicians in our area. It has turned out to be way more than that to me. My thanks to the Poteau Daily News and Oklahoma Welcome e-paper for the opportunity.

Ya know, making music is a lot like bull riding at the rodeo. First, there’s a lil’ equipment to gather, a lil’ help and advice from the old hands, a lotta “on the job” training, a eight second ride, a polite round of applause and very lil’ payout for your trouble. The most important thing to remember is to get right back on after gittin’ throwed. Ya gotta have grit, True Grit to get to throw your hat in the air. It is certainly not for the Money, it’s a labor of love.

It’s the same with making music. Next time that ya hear a band, just remember this. Since music is a feeling or mood, it can pick you up, bring ya down, make ya fall in love or like Haggard sang “Be the runnin’ kind”. In a 3-4 hour gig, the band puts themselves into mood swings 30-40 times a night for the dancers. No wonder most pickers might seem a lil’ different or even a lil’ crazier than normal folks. They use their God given or hard earned talents to entertain ya. To give rhythm to the dancers. But mostly it is because “It’s in’em and it’s gotta come out”- Hank Jr.! Let them know that you appreciate them.

Aaaaaagh! To all the Pirates. There’s another Pirate Party- get together this coming Sat the 4th of February. It will be at the Rough Day Brew Co.- 108 S. Witte st. Downtown Poteau. It is right behind Warehouse Willy’s. Tyler and Chelsea Atkinson, owners, have graciously offered a few tables for the gathering. Music will be provided by “Rearvue Mirror” and some Ole Dawgs will help them. Music will start at 5 pm. Parking is in the back. So stop by for a few minutes and visit with friends. Craft brew and soft drinks will be available.
Live Music starts tonite! Tuesday 31st, there will be another Jazz at the Museum. The LeFlore Co. Historical Society-Lowery will host music by the “Al Grzech Trio”. It starts at 6 pm. David and Donna Deaton provide the atmosphere and the refreshments and invite you to enjoy the music and the Museum. It is free to the public. Al will be joined by Dale Fraze Sr/drums and David Hoffpauir/guitar. See ya there.

Dawn’s Diner/Red Oak will have three nites of music this week. Thursday 2nd, Shady Oak Tridadours start at 5 pm. Friday 3rd, “The Stagemasters” play the best in Classic Country for the dancers. Sat. 4th, Big Marty and the Dirty Dogs play Classic Country and Rock. The music goes from 6 til 10 pm on Friday and Sat. The food is delicious, the music is hot, so “Laissez les bons temps rouler!”

“Earl Hearon and the Sound of Country” will keep the dance floor hot this Sat 4th at Muldrow City Limits. Music starts at 7 pm. “Oklahoma Moon” plays at The Wolf bar and grill at Tenkiller. Just a short trip for great music AND It’s Steak Nite! Get there early and order your food before the band sits down to eat(‘specially Ricky Ward). Music from 6-9 pm. Cavanaugh Senior Activity Center still has remodeling issues so call before ya go. I’m hoping they get going again, both Friday and Sat. for the dances.

That’s all I got for this week. Lots of music scheduled for the upcoming weekends so watch here for info. Thanks again to the readers and followers of my Article. Four(4) years! It has been a blast.
