Most of you know me as Connie Shockley and the ones that are new to my page …. Welcome!
I am journeying towards maintaining my council seat on the Poteau City Council for Ward 3 in the upcoming election on April 4th!
I have been heavily involved and invested in the City of Poteau for almost 3 decades. I am the widow of Jeff Shockley who was the Mayor of Poteau for 20 years and a council member for 6 years prior to his mayor tenure. We were married for 33 years before his passing in 2020. During his tenure I was involved in city politics alongside him or behind the scenes helping him along.
I am an ambitious, self-confident person and my goal is to make effective decisions to benefit the citizens of Poteau. My desire is a friendly approach of community wellbeing through effective local leadership, fiscal responsibility and efficient management.
I was appointed to the City Council in August of 2021 when a vacant seat in Ward 3 came open on the council. There are many facets to serving the citizens of Poteau. Not only are the council required to attend scheduled council meetings but also work with the Mayor overseeing a working budget for the City of Poteau, Poteau Industrial Authority and Poteau Public Works Authority. Council members provide insight and make decisions to govern the city business. One of my goals is to see the town and neighborhoods clean up their areas to beautify our city. It doesn’t take much to pick up a piece of litter along the streets. A clean city is the number one attraction for new residents, new businesses, retail and restaurant locations and attracting the site consultants that represent many projects.
- I currently serve as the Vice-Mayor of the council and am on the following council committees: Finance, Personnel, Insurance, Police and Fire (Public Safety), Pool, Economic Development and Donald W Reynolds Community Center.
- I serve as a Board Trustee for the LeFlore County Development Coalition
- Volunteer for Poteau Balloonfest for many years, volunteer for numerous Chamber events and events at the Donald W Reynolds Center.
- Member of First Christian Church of Poteau
- Employed with Heavener Public Schools as Director of Finance/Treasurer for 29 years
- Employed with Monroe Public Schools as Treasurer for 12 years
Poteau is on the move and will continue to move forward as it has been for numerous years. I want to continue this growth and work with economic development site locators to seek out new businesses and companies interested in locating to our area for the betterment of our community.
I am blessed with a wonderful and beautiful family. Tyler & Sidni, Taylor & Taylor, Brooke & Paul. Grandkids: Joel, Jenna, Liam, Treven & Holden. Parents: Ike & Barbara Caudell, Brother/SIL lkie & Kathy Caudell.
I have and will always be very passionate about the growth of Poteau and the LeFlore County area.
I ask for your vote on April 4th! See you at the polls!
Thank you for your time!
