If ya missed it, the First Cruise night was a success. Lots of cars, pickups and a half a mile of Jeeps. There was a parade, too! Great Springtime event. Thanks to the Chamber of Commerce, Karen Wages and Staff. Thanks to the City of Poteau, Mayor Scotty White and Poteau Police Dept. for helping make this a night to remember. Thanks to all the drivers of the knocked-out vehicles. And the spectators. Man, I would like to have a nickel for every time that I made the run from Hospital Hill to the drive-in back in the 60’s. Good memories!
And there was Live Music at the Coffee Cup. I had the best of intentions to be there. There was a young singer, “Clay Grant”, at the Coffee Cup. Expect to hear more about him. He uses the energy of youth for good not evil. Clay, now there’s a name for a Red Dirt crooner, has several videos that I visited and he has a very unique voice. There’s a lotta fire and passion in his acoustic guitar driven songs. Solo or with his band, his music is exciting. He hails from the Spiro area and I hope to have more info next week.
Live Music this week. “Earl Hearon and the Sound of Country” will be at DawnsDiner/Red Oak this Friday 14th. Earl has a great combination of musicians that includes a Steel, Fiddle and Robert Wright, the best sideman in the area, on bass. Awesome food and the very best in Country. Perfect combination for a night out. Then, “Big Marty and the Dirty Dogs” will play Classic Country and Rock for the Sat. 15th dance. Plenty of room to twist or two-step, whatever tickles your fancy. Music can be heard from 6 til 10 pm.
“Rearvue Mirror” will be at La Heurtas on Garrison Ave. this Sat 15th. And the “Shady Oak Tribadours” Unplugged are featured guest as well. Music is from 6 to 9 pm. Both bands are entertaining and have a different style and song list. Great music and awesome vocals is in their offering. So, grab a good table for Music and food this Saturday.
‘Cross the river at Muldrow City Limits, rumor has it that Bobby Socks, Poodle Skirts and Penny Loafers will be the style of the Sat. 15th 50’s Sock Hop Dance. “Country Express” will play the twist and the Stroll down memory lane. Bring back the memories of the music and the dances of yesteryear. If ya can two-step then ya can jitterbug. Music starts at 7 pm. Easy to find , 1404 South Main St. just off of I-40 at Exit 321. Get there early and bring some friends.
Looking ahead- “Even Keel” with Dr, Al Grzech on keys will play for the Chamber of Commerce Banquet on the 27th. There will be “Jazz at the Museum”, Lum and Abner Festival in June, 4th of July Celebration, Oktoberfest, and an assorted mix of fishfries, fundraisers and charitable events upcoming!
