Since I have to send this article to the paper on Friday 8th, this will be about the Surprise 90th Birthday Party that we had for Mom, aka Wanda Cleaver. Last Sunday afternoon, the 10th a bunch of friends, relatives, folks from the dances, “The Stagemasters”, Raymond and me all got together In Shady Point! First I invited three of Mom’s best friends, Regina Hight, Sharon Harlon Pennington and Margie Alvos Barnes. They volunteered to be on the decorating committee. And since they were coming and had to bring their boyfriends and husbands anyway, so the guys offered to play for the dance. Awesome friends all around. I am humbled by this huge favor and wanna Thank everyone. Now I gotta mention their names cause I promised to give them a lotta exposure in the paper for helping me out. Randy Smith, Terry Barnes, Larry Hight and David Hoffpauir are the very best Country Dance band in our area and then some! Thanks again to all for making the party such a huge success! Mom loved it!
My favorite musical event of the year, The Shane Bailey Memorial Music Society will be held on Friday 15th in the Bakery District from 6 til 10pm. Don and Terri Bailey will host the 10th Annual Bash in honor of their son, Shane. I understand that he was an excellent drummer and songwriter. Its mission is to provide funding, education and performance opportunities that foster creative music and artistic expression by helping young people develop and hone their musical and creative skills. Instrument donations to area young musicians and school programs are also important parts of the Society’s mission.
In the Bakery District, this event is very Family Friendly and Free! Lots of games Cornhole, Bocce Ball and more for kids and adults, Live Music, snow cones and a cash bar. Bands at this Bash- First and always a Treat, “Don Bailey and Friends, “The Bridgewater Band”, “The Cabbageheads”, “The Crumbs” and “Goodluck Slim” ! Make plans to be there and if ya can’t make it, info on the fb event page will give you ways to donate. Support future Musicians!
Just gotta mention that after a brief timeout and rest at home, Hillbilly Vegas will be headin’ back out soon. More will be revealed but it all starts in England. Opening for Luke Morley. He was in a very successful band called “Thunder”. Heck, of a songwriter, too. Great music and guitar work from this Rocker. Ck’em out. Plus the fan base for “Hillbilly Vegas” has been growing by leaps and bounds. Nobody uses social media better!

Sometimes stuff happens! The Bass player for “The Stagemasters”, Larry Hight and wife, Regina were doin just fine last Friday morning bout 4 am until their house was struck by lightning during that short Summer storm. They were blessed to be able to get out safely but the home was severely damaged. Prayers for strength are what’s needed most now from us. Later, if we can help in any way, when we can, it is laying on the table. The musical family round here will pitch in. Regina is one of Mom’s dearest friends. Larry and Regina are loved by many.
Live Music this weekend- The award for Hardest-working band has gotta go to “The Libby Starkes Band”. Friday 15th they make a short stop at the Cherokee Casino-Roland for an early gig at 5pm. Libby is a favorite here. Then, in Ft. Smith at- Rooster’s on the Ave.- Garrison Ave. that is. They play from 10 pm til ?.Make it a two for Friday. Catch Libby and the band at both places. Then Sat the 16th, Libby will be singing at The Deck on Lake Tenkiller. Music starts at 7 pm.
Muldrow City Limits will feature “Backroads” for the Sat. Night Dance. Music starts at 7pm. Get there early for a good seat.
“59 South will be playing at Dawn’s Diner/Red Oak on Friday 15th. Great food and awesome Classic Country and Rock to enjoy! Music starts at 6pm.
“Grannie’s Nightmare” will be Rockin’ on Garrison Ave on Friday the 15th. Dale Fraze Sr. will be pounding the skins, laying down the beat for Rocky Sumpter’s bass and Brad Sumpter Lead singin’ and power trio screaming R&R lead guitar. These guys have a lotta experience on stage together, but I see where the “Rolling Stones” have a new album coming out so that proves there is no set retirement age for Rockers! Grannie’s Nightmare will Rock til they drop! Love you guys!
