The promulgation of wildlife rules was the frenzy of last week. With the passage of Senate Bill 448, the rules were nothing expected, and a backlash of public discontent ensued. As of this writing, I have seen nothing in writing yet from Wildlife as to what the new rules will be. I was told by several Wildlife officials that they will return to the original intent of SB 448 and only require out-of-staters to register and pay, leaving our in-state hunters alone. I believe most will have no problem with these changes, but again I haven’t seen this in writing.
Along the lines of rule changes, Service Oklahoma did an about face on paper vehicle titles. With a new law going into effect this past July 1, Service Oklahoma was only providing electronic titles, with paper copies going away. Again, public outcry was able to get this policy changed. So now, if you have no lien against your vehicle, you will be able to request and receive a hard copy of your title. Call me “old fashioned,” but there is something to be said about holding a document rather than looking at an image on your smart device.
Along the lines of doing something right, congratulations to Secretary Tim Gatz and his crew at the Oklahoma Department of Transportation
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of former Gov. George Nigh who passed away last week. Gov. Nigh had a “servant’s heart,” and he left his mark over the entire state, but mostly in the McAlester area where he was born and raised.
As always, thank You for allowing me to serve you. I can be reached at (405) 557-7381 or by email at jim.grego@okhouse.gov.
