Sen. Hicks comments on Oklahoma State Board of Education flat budget request

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Carri Hicks issued the following statement after the Oklahoma State Board of Education voted Thursday on their budget request for Fiscal Year 2027. With the exception of additional funding for increased health insurance costs, it would essentially represent a flat budget for Oklahoma schools.

“It’s disappointing to see a flat education budget request that ignores inflation, rising enrollment, and teacher turnover. Budgets reflect priorities and this one preserves the status quo instead of meeting the moment. If we are serious about moving our state out of 50th in education, we must make bold, targeted investments in our students, educators, and schools. Oklahomans deserve a budget that demonstrates urgency and commitment to building a stronger future for every child.” – Sen. Carri Hicks, D-Oklahoma City.
