Dortha Mae James of the Knot Hole Community in Cameron Oklahoma passed away Monday January 19, 2026, in Poteau, Oklahoma at the age of 92. Dortha was born in Rock Island, Oklahoma on January 7, 1934, to Curtis and Clara (Walker) Solomon.
Dortha was a homemaker and loved her family dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Clara Solomon, her husband, Robert Lee James, her daughter, Kathy Mae James, her son, Robert Dale James, her siblings, Edna Aary, Sonny Solomon, Harold Solomon, Louise Jordan, and E.J. Solomon. Dortha attended Calhoun Baptist Church.
Dortha is survived by her sons, Ernie James and wife, Diana of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Avery James and wife, JoAnn of Cameron, Oklahoma; her daughter Donna Barnes of Poteau, Oklahoma; her brother Joe Paul Solomon and wife Linda of Spiro, Oklahoma; her sister, Tookie Davis of Parkhill, Oklahoma twelve grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren and fifteen great great-grandchildren.
Celebration of Life Services for Dortha Mae James will be held 2 pm Wednesday, January 28th, 2026, at The Cedars on Dewey 520 Dewey Ave Poteau, Oklahoma 74953 with Pastor Steve Hughes officiating. Visitation will be 11am, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the Cedars on Dewey with lunch at 12:30 pm in the Cedar Celebration Center 520 Dewey Ave, Poteau, Oklahoma Burial will follow in the Fair Hill Cemetery in Cameron, Oklahoma.
