KIOWA, OK – On January 30, 2026, the Kiowa Police Department requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to investigate an officer-involved shooting.
Just before 3:30 p.m., a Kiowa Police officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle, regarding speeding, along State Highway 69 in Kiowa, Oklahoma.
When officers attempted to make contact with the driver, identified as 35-year-old Brandon Potts, he did not comply with verbal commands and brandished two knives, resulting in an officer-involved shooting.
Life-saving measures were provided to Potts on scene and he was transported to a local hospital, where he later passed away from his injuries.
There were no other injuries during the altercation and this is still an ongoing investigating at this time.
Once the investigation is complete, the OSBI will provide their report to the Pittsburg County District Attorney’s Office for review.
