Carroll was a precious brother and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was a lover of music, especially enjoying the work of his favorite artist Elvis Presley. His aunt, Eula Mae Nelson, served as his guardian for over 40 years. Carroll was a resident of Oaks Healthcare Center for more than 25 years, where he formed many lasting friendships. He enjoyed playing bingo, watching animal shows and westerns on television, and was well known for his playful spirit and love of practical jokes—especially on the nursing staff. Over the years, the nursing home became his extended family.
Survivors include his sister, Darlene Lyons of Wister, Oklahoma and her significant other, Roy Heflin; his brother, Phillip Nichols and wife Velma of Poteau, Oklahoma; one nephew, Albert Lee Mize; and one niece, Monica Shepherd.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Inez and Bill Covey; and one brother, Gary Nichols.
Funeral Service for Carroll Wayne Covey, 78, of Poteau, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Evans Chapel in Poteau, Oklahoma with Eddie Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Ellis Chapel Cemetery in Wister, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
