Sonny was born on October 19, 1943, in Milton, Oklahoma, to Roy and Matha (Culwell) Tackett. He was raised in the Milton area and remained deeply connected to the community throughout his life.
Sonny worked for many years in the coal mining industry before retiring as a State of Oklahoma Mining Inspector. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his profession. Outside of work, Sonny was an avid deer hunter and farmer who enjoyed spending time outdoors. He attended Bokoshe Methodist Church and was a proud graduate of Bokoshe High School.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Matha Tackett; two sisters; and two brothers.
Sonny is survived by his son, Kevin Tackett and wife Angie of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughters, Kim Rayon of Bixby, Oklahoma, and Theresa Drennon of Bixby, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Terra Murphy, Ashley Morris and husband Reno, Kenzie Tackett, Brianne’ Shelton and husband Skyler, Ethan Rayon, Cody Rayon and wife Dani; great grandchildren, Phoenix, Ryder, Talon, Zion Murphy and Te’a Lou Shelton, along with other family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
A memorial service for Sonny will be held at a later date at Bokoshe Methodist Church.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
