State Rep. Jim Grego

By Rep. Jim Grego

Week 12 is upon us. The general appropriations bill, which sets the overall framework of our state budget, has been signed into law. Now, we are in the process of passing all the bills that direct specific agency spending. This week, we also cleaned up the final touches on American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. This was some one-time federal dollars that allowed us to fund some much needed infrastructure deficiencies.

One bill signed into law this week was Senate Bill 1942. This is legislation I signed onto as a co-author. It’s an act relating to dental insurance claims. It also is an excellent example of taking a constituent’s advice, as my local dentist is always advising me on dental issues.

My House Bill 1411 also was signed into law by the governor this week. This bill names the “True Grit” trail in Eastern Oklahoma, designating some locations in the state where the “True Grit” book and movies might have taken place. Hopefully, this will give yet another reason to visit Oklahoma. We have Rooster Cogburn on standby, and hopefully we can get the governor to do a ceremonial signing so we can bring all the characters out. It should be fun.

One issue that is reoccurring is property tax relief. Several options are out there. I’m not sure which direction the final product will go, but I do believe we will have a state question dealing with this issue. I believe some type of relief will become law.

As always, I’m thankful to the constituents of House District 17 for allowing me to serve. If I can help you in any way, I can be reached at (405) 557-7381 or by email at jim.grego@okhouse.gov.
