R.C. Mitchell was born on February 17, 1937, in Texas to Effie Mitchell and Clyde Mitchell and passed away on May 31, 2026, in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
R.C. was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to help anyone in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Effie Mitchell; one brother, Joe Mitchell; and one sister, Melba Vivian.
Survivors include his loving wife, Loretha Mitchell of the home; one son, Darren Mitchell and wife Rhonda; one daughter, Shelly Welch and husband Ricky; grandchildren, Justin McConnell, Dustin McConnell, Stephanie Norby, Kory Mitchell, Gracie Mitchell, Felicity Mitchell, and Hope Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Bennett Norby, Brooklynn McConnell, Addison McConnell, and Jayde McConnell; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and loved ones who will cherish his memory.
R.C. will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, but his legacy of kindness and service to others will continue to live on through his family and friends.
Graveside Service for R.C. Mitchell, 89, of Bokoshe, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the graveside in Bokoshe, Oklahoma, with Rev. Scott Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Old Bokoshe Cemetery in Bokoshe, Oklahoma, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
Viewing and visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Evans & Miller Funeral Home.
