Oklahoma Attorney General seal
OKLAHOMA CITY (June 18, 2026) – The Multi-County Grand Jury has indicted a drug dealer accused of selling a deadly dose of fentanyl to a 29-year-old mother of three.
DJ Simpson, 40, faces charges of Murder in the First Degree, or in the alternative Murder in the Second Degree, along with Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, in connection with the death of Kambri Newsom. According to the indictment, Newsom died of fentanyl toxicity after Simpson distributed the drugs to her in November 2025 in Oklahoma County. The medical examiner determined fentanyl caused her death.
Investigators believe Simpson knew Newsom had struggled with addiction and had maintained a period of sobriety before her death.
“This is a heartbreaking case of a young mother who fought hard for her sobriety, only to have her life stolen by someone who knew exactly what he was doing,” said Attorney General Gentner Drummond. “Drug dealers who prey on people in recovery are committing murder, plain and simple, and justice demands they be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
Every person arrested or charged is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
