OKLAHOMA CITY (July 14, 2026) — Team OKC joined LA28 in celebrating the two-year countdown to the opening of the Olympic Games by hosting Oklahoma City’s first official LA28 community volunteer event Tuesday at Zach D. Taylor Park in partnership with OKC Beautiful.
The volunteer event coincided with the opening of applications for Games-time volunteering with the LA28 Volunteer Program presented by Delta Airlines, which will include up to 60,000 Games-time volunteers helping bring the Olympic and Paralympic Games to life across Los Angeles and Oklahoma City in 2028.
More than 100 volunteers collected 6747 pounds of trash in the community cleanup and beautification project, demonstrating the spirit of service that is at the heart of the Olympic and Paralympic Movements while helping care for one of Oklahoma City’s high-need public spaces.
“Volunteers are the heart of every Olympic and Paralympic Games, and today we were proud to officially kick off that spirit of service here in Oklahoma City,” said Michael Byrnes, President of Team OKC. “As a host venue for Softball and Canoe Slalom in 2028, Oklahoma City has an incredible opportunity to welcome the world. Today’s volunteers helped launch that journey.”
“In 2028, the world’s attention will be on LA as the world’s best athletes make history, but it’s the crew behind the scenes that help make those moments possible,” said Reynold Hoover, LA28 Chief Executive Officer. “Their impact cannot be overstated — behind every event, every venue and every moment will be the LA28 Volunteer Crew, ready and eager to play a vital role in the delivery of the LA28 Games.”
Volunteerism plays a vital role in delivering every Olympic and Paralympic Games. Through the LA28 Volunteer Crew, community members have two opportunities to make an impact: by participating in community volunteer projects leading up to the Games and by serving as Games-time volunteers during the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
While most volunteer opportunities during the Games will take place in Los Angeles, volunteers will also play an important role in supporting Olympic competitions in Oklahoma City, which will host Softball and Canoe Slalom as part of the LA28 Games.
The July 14 volunteer event was held alongside similar LA28 community volunteer projects taking place across the Los Angeles region to commemorate the two-year milestone before the Games. In Oklahoma City, volunteers partnered with OKC Beautiful to remove litter, improve public spaces and demonstrate how local service can help build excitement and community pride leading into 2028.
Applications for Games-time members of the LA28 Volunteer Crew are now open. Community members interested in helping deliver the largest Olympic and Paralympic Games in history can learn more and apply at volunteer.LA28.org.
