Her husband of 59 years: Elmer Harold Nixon
Two daughters: Melissa Marie (Nixon) Scarbrough and husband Carl, Tamara Sue (Nixon) Sanders and husband Russell
One sister: Carolyn McCaslin and husband Bob
Four grandchildren: Joel Scarbrough, Will Scarbrough and fiancé, Kate Campbell, Hannah (Sanders) Leonard and husband Reece, Ethan Sanders and wife Faith
Three great-grandchildren: Maisie and Emrie Leonard, and Ruth Sanders
Numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and many dear friends
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Bill and Erma Whisenhunt; her grandparents, Tom and Emma Swift; and a daughter, Melinda Sue Nixon.
Connie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who leaves an enduring legacy of love and faith. She was married to her cherished husband, Elmer, for 59 wonderful years, during which they built a life grounded in their deep love for family and unwavering faith.
For 38 years, Connie contributed her skills and heart to the dental practice of Dr. Gary Youree, DDS in Heavener, Oklahoma. Starting as a dental assistant and rising to the role of office manager, she became known for her professionalism, kindness, and dedication to her colleagues and patients alike. She retired in December 2014, concluding nearly four decades of exemplary service.
Connie was deeply involved in church activities, dedicating over 50 years to women’s and children’s ministries. She spent countless hours working with TeamKIDS, Vacation Bible School, and Children’s Church Camps, impacting the lives of children and their families for generations. On many Sundays, she could be found lovingly rocking babies in the church nursery.
In her leisure time, Connie enjoyed crafting, jewelry-making, sewing, baking, and traveling. The moments she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, were treasures she cherished. Her love, creativity, and generous spirit had a profound effect on everyone she met.
Above all, Connie adored the Lord and embodied her faith through acts of kindness, compassion, and service. She leaves behind a remarkable legacy that will inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
The funeral service to celebrate Connie’s life will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 15, 2026 at the Springhill Baptist Church in Howe, Oklahoma with Pastor Keno King and Dr. Jeff Beshears officiating. Burial will follow in Heavener Memorial Park under the direction and care of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener, Oklahoma.
Pallbearers will be: Carl Scarbrough, Russell Sanders, Joel Scarbrough, Will Scarbrough, Ethan Sanders, and Reece Leonard.
Viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday. The family will visit with friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
