State Rep. Jim Grego

By Rep. Jim Grego

Rooster Coburn and the True Grit Trail are now the law of the land. A ceremonial signing of this bill was held last week and was a lot of fun. Many characters portraying the various actors were present when Gov. Stitt signed this legislation. Now starts the heavy lifting as this designation was signed with the understanding that the signage would all be purchased and installed with private donations at no cost to taxpayers. The whole intent of this legislation was to give tourists another reason to visit Oklahoma.

Caring Hands Healthcare broke ground last week on their new facility in McAlester, and I had the opportunity to attend and say a few words. I spoke about my time serving on the House Appropriations and Budget Committee and approving millions of dollars on various projects statewide, and now we have one that benefits all of southeast Oklahoma. These projects don’t just happen. We had a board of directors and an executive director that invested much of their own time and efforts lobbying lawmakers to get this project across the finish line. Congratulations and looking forward to seeing the finished project.

Once again, we have almost survived another election cycle, with the primary run-off elections being next Tuesday. Often times, we fail to see the good qualities in our candidates because of the barrage of negative ads that are presented, many with half-truths or less. Please do your research and vote for the candidate of your choice. Also research the two state questions that are on the ballot so you will be prepared for them. Historically, runoff elections have low voter participation. Let’s not let this happen this time. Everyone get out and vote. Early voting starts this Thursday, Aug. 20.

You can access your ballots and find out other information about this election on the Oklahoma Election Board website: https://oklahoma.gov/elections.html.

As always, thank you for allowing me to serve. If I can help you in any way, I can be reached at (405) 557-7381 or by email at jim.grego@okhouse.gov.

Jim Grego serves District 17 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. His district includes Latimer County and part and Pittsburg County.
