According to Assistant Poteau Police Chief, Greg Russell the pedestrian that was killed in an accident in Poteau has been identified.
According to Russel, on September 9, 2019 at 9:03 pm, the Poteau Police, Poteau Fire, and LeFlore County EMS were dispatched to the 5000 block of North Broadway in the city limits of Poteau on a call of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
Investigation at the scene determined that a 59 year old John Alan Webster, 59, of Poteau walking westbound across the 5000 block of North Broadway approximately 49 feet south of Coggins Road.
A crosswalk was not present.
A 2016 Ford F-150,driven by a 43 year old male from Wister, was southbound in the inside lane of the 5000 block of North Broadway.
The Webster walked west out of the turn lane into the inside southbound lane in front of the Ford.
The driver of the Ford attempted to brake and swerve right, but collided wit the pedestrian.
Webster was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and passenger of the Ford were uninjured.
Investigation into the collision is ongoing, with Poteau Police Investigators working in conjunction with an Investigator from the Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
