Company to work to create high-tech jobs, partnerships with area universities
OKLAHOMA CITY - Governor Mary Fallin and Valkyrie Systems Aerospace (VSA) today announced a partnership between the state of Oklahoma and the company. The partnership will ultimately accommodate manufacturing facilities, as well as flight operations and training in the greater Oklahoma City area.
VSA was recently awarded a 21st Century Quality Jobs Program incentive contract that will create at least 352 new high-paying jobs for the state of Oklahoma within the next five years.
“Oklahoma is one of the world's premier destinations for the aerospace and defense industry. The new Valkyrie facility will continue to elevate this industry in our state,” said Fallin. “By bringing aircraft manufacturing to Oklahoma, the company will help us grow as a leader in aerospace and UAS (unmanned aircraft systems). Our talented workforce and low cost of doing business along with a good quality of life makes Oklahoma very attractive for growing companies like Valkyrie. This is another example that our economic pro-business policies are diversifying Oklahoma’s economy.”
“We appreciate the efforts of Governor Mary Fallin and her team,” Glenn Dawson, Valkyrie Systems Aerospace chief executive officer, said. “They have worked hard to create an environment to attract some of the most exciting companies in the aerospace industry today. Oklahoma already has some of the top aviation companies in the world, and they are starting to grow the unmanned arena as well. The state of Oklahoma is well on its way to become the leader in unmanned aerospace development and manufacturing. We are proud to announce our choice of Oklahoma City for VSA’s operations center set to open during 2018's fourth quarter.”
“One of the reasons VSA chose to partner with the state of Oklahoma was the ability to integrate our company with the University of Oklahoma’s aviation and aerospace engineering program, as well as Oklahoma State University’s autonomous UAV (unmanned aerial vehicles) program,” said Steve Tafoya, managing partner of VSA. “We are proud to bring high-tech jobs to the greater Oklahoma City area. Valkyrie’s goal is to create and maintain partnerships with the higher education system in Oklahoma, all the while developing and retaining students with the goal of moving them into the aerospace workforce as supported by Valkyrie Systems Aerospace.”
“The Oklahoma Department of Commerce has worked with Valkyrie for nine months to bring this project to fruition,” Oklahoma Secretary of Commerce and Tourism Deby Snodgrass said. “By locating in Oklahoma City, they will be in close proximity to other world-class companies and defense operations and near our research universities, which will provide a pipeline of talent through numerous aerospace and UAS degree programs.”
VSA’s HoverJets are unmanned and optionally piloted aircraft which support multiple global missions that include medical evacuation, extraction of personnel and equipment, real-time situational awareness and threat detection, re-establishment of downed communications systems, firefighting, and much more.
The HoverJets’ unique heavy-lift vertical takeoff and landing allow them to operate in any environment, whether it be land, sea or air.

I’ve seen #bossbabe on Twitter & Facebook for quite awhile now. I couldn’t find the term #bossguy, so I guess maybe I coined it. I searched for the definition of boss babe, but what I found is nowhere near what these women do. While the term “bossbabe” may have negative connotations, Boss Babes and Boss Guys are local entrepreneurs who are their own self-employed bosses whether in business for themselves or working for themselves while part of a larger corporation. These men and women live this quote by Sheldon Adelson: I’m not in business to make money for the other guy. I’m in business to make money for myself. I reached out to my Facebook friends and asked for my friends to submit their businesses. Here are several who volunteered to be included in this article.

The Poteau Chamber of Commerce welcomes McDonalds of Poteau with a ribbon cutting for their Re-Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting. The Poteau location is one of the first in our area to have the new lobby design and to offer automated ordering.
McDonalds of Poteau owner, Jim Hadley, whose family own nine McDonalds throughout the area has remodeled the lobby of the Poteau McDonald adding Ordering Kiosks, Table Service, Mobile Ordering and Customer Pick-Up. In the near future, they will be adding an electronic menu board at the drive through similar to the one in the lobby.
“We haven’t had many people use the McDonalds app in this area, but it is catching on. A customer can place an order using the app and pay with their credit card. When they drive into the parking lot, the app signals the kitchen to prepare their order. They can bypass the drive through line and pull into the Curbside Parking and someone will bring their order to them. It doesn’t matter where you are when you order; the app will signal whichever restaurant location you pull into.” For example, you could order on your way to Ft. Smith and pick up your order at whichever McDonalds you pull into. This service would be great when you’re in a hurry and don’t want to wait in line at the drive through.
The addition of the kiosks and table service has meant McDonalds had to hire additional employees. There will always be at least one employee in the lobby to help with the kiosk and several employees will bring a customer’s order to the table. According to Tracy Gerlach, Poteau McDonalds manager, “We will always have someone to help you with your order. You can always order at the counter as well.”
KTCS Radio did a live remote during the grand-opening and gave away McDonalds gift cards of $25 each.
