BRADENTON, Fla. (September 20, 2024) — The Coalition on Adult Basic Education (COABE) and the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) are pleased to announce a formal partnership to provide a comprehensive curriculum and industry-recognized credentials to individuals enrolled in adult education and enhance the talent pipeline from these programs to the skilled construction trades. COABE is the leading and largest adult education organization worldwide. NCCER is America’s premier provider of construction education for industry and career and technical education programs. This partnership will help fill talent gaps employers are experiencing in the construction and maintenance industries while helping learners obtain their first jobs in a successful career pathway, which is truly a “win-win” for all involved.
NCCER is excited to embark on such an important initiative to assist in providing training for adult learners that will lead to sustainable, life-changing careers in construction. This effort will also support the construction industry’s effort to attract and train the next generation of craft professionals, said Boyd Worsham, NCCER President and CEO.
“Adult education programs across the country serve as a talent pipeline for employers. More than 51,000 of the 3.2 million learners in local programs are currently receiving Integrated Education Training (IET), which accelerates learning opportunities while contextualizing training, so employers can fill open positions more quickly. Our goal is to scale up our field so that this number triples in the next three years, which would be a win-win for the construction industry, adult education programs, learners, and our partnership,” said Sharon Bonney, COABE CEO.
