I’ll let you be the judge about the “best” designation of this recipe. It is a little bit different from any other recipe I’ve seen before. The baking soda is dissolved in hot water before being added to the batter. I didn’t think it changed the end result. If you try this recipe, let me know what you think about it. My favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe is one someone else bakes and then shares the cookies with me. I’ve not ever had one I didn’t like.

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup butter, softened

2 large eggs

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1 cup white sugar

1 tsp baking soda

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 tsp vanilla extract

2 cups chocolate chips

1/2 tsp salt

2 tsp hot water

Chopped walnuts or pecans, if desired

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a bowl, cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.

Add eggs and vanilla and beat until light and fluffy. Dissolve baking soda in hot water and stir into batter.

Stir flour and salt together then mix into the batter about a cup at a time. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts, if desired.

Use a small cookie scoop to carefully place dough on cooking sheet.

Cook 8 to ten minutes, until lightly brown. Cool a few minutes before removing to cooling racks.
