Poteau, OK – Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center is pleased to offer “Swing Bed” services.

What is a Swing Bed?

“Swing Bed” is the term used to describe a hospital room that can switch from acute care status to skilled/rehab care status. The actual bed/room does not change; what changes is the level of care that the patient in the room receives.
According to the EOMC website, the examples of who qualifies for Swing Bed services are those patients who have had surgery: joint replacements/amputations, stroke patients (who do not qualify for admission to a Rehab Center), those needing long term IV Antibiotic therapy, or other illness and injuries. The patient will receive daily therapy and care to meet self-care goals established by you and your health care provider.
Therapy includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, skilled nursing, and the involvement of a registered dietician.

The program allows the patient more time to recover and gain strength before going home, without having to go to a nursing home to recover. Daily therapy is centered on self-care skills and functional strengthening which will increase the patient’s independence when they leave. There is also continued access to your doctor and hospital services, should the need arise you can return to acute care without changing beds. Your family is encouraged to be present and involved. We also have daily activities, pet visitation, and more.
