Popular stair climb events raises money and awareness for lung disease, lung health, clean air and medical research.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – (February 29, 2024) – On Saturday, March 9, 2024, the American Lung Association's Fight For Air Climb, a premier stair-climb event in Oklahoma City, returns to Leadership Square. Climbers of all levels from casual participants to elite climbers will take on the 1,445 steps up and down the north and south towers of Leadership Square. Over 400 participants will gather to raise awareness for lung health and clean air. 

This year, the American Lung Association in Oklahoma is offering a new and unique challenge .Climbers who register for the Elite Power Hour Climb will have the opportunity to join the team of one of five ‘Elite Coaches’, each with their own individual accolades for stair climbing. The coaches are traveling from across the country to raise awareness about lung health and compete at the ranked Oklahoma City climbing event. Ahead of the event, the elite coaches will offer participants the opportunity to ask questions, receive training tips and encouragement.

Coaches include: •    Troy Alston, currently ranked 9th in the US & 16th in the World•    Victoria Eller, OKC’s reigning Overall Power Hour Champ•    Mark Ewell, currently ranked 1st in the US•    Guy Nembhard, OKC’s reigning Male Power Hour Winner•    Debbie Officer, currently ranked 8th in the US

Registration is now open for the event, which invites individuals, families, groups of friends, corporate teams and first responders to tackle the stairs. Those unable to join us onsite can choose the “Climb Your Way” option as well.   The event’s presenting sponsor is Walmart. Additional sponsors include IAFF Local 157, Newcastle Casino, Vizient, Bank of Oklahoma, Child Care Inc., INTEGRIS Health, Golden Mesa Casino, PT Central and Robinson Park. The event’s National Corporate Team Partner is Kindred Hospitals.

Funds raised at the Fight For Air Climb will directly support the American Lung Association in Oklahoma’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease and help fund much-needed research to save lives from asthma, COPD, lung cancer and more.
