Cyndi Munson (D-OKC)
OKLAHOMA CITY – House Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson, D-Oklahoma City, released the following statement after the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) board voted to reject a proposed emergency rule from the Governor as an extension of his recent Executive Order 2025-16. The proposed rule sought to mandate all SoonerCare providers in Oklahoma to submit a signed attestation if they or any related entities engage in certain reproductive health practices, including referral or affiliation.
“I am pleased to see the OHCA board reject what may be an unlawful overreach and continued attack on reproductive health care from the Governor,” said Leader Munson. “We’ve seen in a 2024 annual report from the Oklahoma State Department of Health that maternal mortality in Oklahoma remains above the national average. Providers continue to face unnecessary political challenges to practice in Oklahoma and policies like this only further deter providers from Oklahoma and in turn make health care worse for everyone else. Oklahoma already ranks 49th nationally in health care. We have to make Oklahoma a welcoming place for health care providers and put trust and support into experts if we want Oklahoma to ever reach the top ten. I hope the Attorney General’s opinion requested by OHCA reflects the growing health care needs of Oklahomans and halts this potential overreach of power from the Governor.”
