OKLAHOMA CITY – The chief executive officer of the Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy (OICA) said Gov. Kevin Stitt made “one of his best decisions as governor” by appointing Dr. Deb Shropshire, M.D., to be executive director of Oklahoma Human Services.
“I can’t imagine a single child advocate who is not over the moon about Dr. Shropshire’s appointment,” said Joe Dorman, CEO of OICA. “Deb has spoken to our advocates on many occasions and there is absolutely no one better suited to lead this sprawling agency that is the heart of Oklahoma’s social safety net for children, families, and senior citizens.”
Shropshire was the organization’s keynote speaker at its 2019 Heroes Ball, telling attendees, “So let’s set big goals, create safe spaces, and innovate. And one day, let’s sit in this room and talk about what we’ve accomplished.”
She also has been a speaker at the organization’s annual Fall Forums, where advocates develop recommendations for the yearly Children’s Legislative Agenda presented to lawmakers.
Dorman concluded by saying he urges the Oklahoma Senate to confirm the governor’s appointment of Dr. Shropshire at the earliest possible date.
